Hello.
As the new year has come and gone, I find that the resolutions that I gave up on making so many years ago may actually serve a purpose. Of course, until now, I have not really seen the meaning in setting a newly resolved goal to lose weight or quit smoking or any number of bad habits one should want to give up. I have, however, seen the purpose of an annual "let's keep the ball rolling" or even a "let's get the ball rolling again."
Truth is, most days, I don't care how much I weigh or whether I've drunk enough coffee to put a normal person in a caffeine coma. As a matter of fact, these are the things that I have finally "come to terms" with. I have bad habits. These, are what I believed was what I was supposed to leave behind each year when I made my New Year's Resolution.
Upon consulting both my Merriam-Webster Dictionary and my Oxford American Writer's Thesaurus, I've come to a rather startling conclusion. Resolution is really just synonymous with decision or determination. It has absolutely nothing to do with leaving behind old habits.
So my New Year's Resolution? I'd prefer if you asked me what I wanted to do with my life this year. Honestly, it really hasn't changed too much from the last. I want to be published, but in the moments until that happens, I want to be a successful blogger, and I want to broaden my horizons as an artist. Those are the decisions I made for myself this year. Move forward. That's all, move forward. Keep the ball rolling...forward.
And if what I'm moving forward to actually causes me to gain a few pounds or smoke more than I should or even cause me to drink coffee even when all the coffee shops are closed, then so be it.
